March 2024 – Upcoming Literary Events

There is an abundance of choices available if you have an interest in books, writing, poetry, or are seeking an open mic event. Here is a round up of what’s coming up over the next two weeks in Galway’s rich literary scene.

The Oilslick

Taking place on the last Monday of every month in the Salthouse Bar, Galway, is The Oilslick’s Open Mic, a lovely evening of poetry, music, warmth and laughter. Sometimes the night will have a theme, but this coming Monday, 25th March, the theme is open, so attendees can read poems on any subject. You’ll be guaranteed a lovely atmosphere and a welcoming crowd. Starting at 7pm, admission is free.

Eva’s Echo Theatre

Taking place on Saturday 30th of March at 7pm is an evening of fun and spontaneity in Bearna courtesy of Eva’s Echo Theatre Company. Writing prompts will be provided, or feel free to write whatever comes to you. A great evening of encouragement and the opportunity to write without a net. Check it out in Súil Eile Space, located in Bearna.

Over The Edge

This will be a feast for lovers of poetry and the spoken word. Over the Edge returns for a special night of poetry on Thursday, April 4th in the Galway City Library for a series of readings to celebrate the birthday of  our always missed friend, the great Kevin Higgins. There will be readings by the brilliant American poets Felicia McCarthy, Sandy Yannone and Kim Ports Parsons, followed by an Open Mic for anyone who wishes to read their work.

Crannóg Issue 60 Launch

The riches keep coming in April for all those lovers of words and good lines. On Friday April 5th, Crannóg magazine launches its Spring 2024 issue. This is always a great night and tends to be packed out, so get down early. Contributors to the magazine will be reading their poetry and fiction, and you can get yourselves a copy of the magazine. Events get going at 6.30pm in the Crane Bar, Sea Road, Galway.
